In addition to this blog, I have another blog, myrockdatediary, on which I keep a record of all my previous gigs and festivals I’ve attended. Every now and again I also post about a new artist I’ve discovered or song that I particularly like.

I’ve just started a Tumblr account on which I’m posting all my memorabilia, one day at a time.

Well this time last week I was waiting at Dublin port waiting to board the ferry back to Holyhead after our New Year’s Eve in Killarney. Both me & Thomas were somewhat worse for wear, but once on the ferry we decided to go for the “hair of the dog” remedy.

But the most notable event of the week is that tonight will be Thomas‘s last night here. as he’s moving out tomorrow to house-share with a work colleague.

Other things to have happened in the week, this blog for starters has been resurrected. I’ve also done my first post in my other blog, myrockdatediary, which is a post about my first gig of 2012.

I’ve also started a Project 365, on which I aim to take and upload a photo each day of the year.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a photo of some of Devon‘s baking, so it’s time to remedy that situation.

She’s baked these chocolate cakes for her brother Thomas, who will be leaving home on Monday to house share with a work colleague.

The question is, will they last until Monday?

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to resurrect my much neglected blog, which I started as part of the WordPress Postaday project, so here I am.

I’m not going to commit myself to a post a day, as with family, study & work commitments, I was struggling to fulfil the commitment. What I have decided to do, is try and post a photograph a day, a la Project 365 (or 366 as it’s a leap year!) which may or may not be accompanied by a narrative.

So I’ll start with a couple of photographs from New Year’s Eve.

My son, Thomas, and I celebrated New Year’s Eve at the Irish National Exhibition Centre (INEC) in Killarney. We attended what was advertised as Ireland’s biggest New Year’s Eve party. The head-liners for the night were the Saw Doctors, one of our favourite bands, supported by Sharon Shannon & Jack L.

I’ll be posting a review of the gig on my other site, myrockdatediary, but needless to say it was a storming night! The festivities started early afternoon on the train down from Dublin, when having changed trains at Mallow, the beer started flowing. It continued at our hotel, carried on at the Backstage bar at the INEC, and culminated at the party itself.

The photos were taken at midnight, when Jack L & Sharon Shannon joined the Saw Doctors on stage for Auld Lang Syne. As you can see, we were having a rather good time!

Well that’s my first post of the year, relatively painless, but then I am on holiday!

For now, can I just wish anyone who reads this or who has supported by blogging efforts throughout 2011 a Happy New Year!

Alma – who or what is Alma?

Alma is the title of a short video I’ve just watched on the recommendation of my daughter, Devon.

She watched Alma in one of her English lessons at the sixth form college she’s just joined.

I won’t say too much about the video, it’s beautifully made, but quite disturbing!

It’s Showtime!

Thomas has been performing all week in Blitz, the latest musical performed by the Gainsborough Amateur Operatic Society (G.A.O.S), and tonight I’m taking Devon, my mother & Thomas’s girlfriend Megan to see the final performance.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never heard of the musical Blitz. It’s written by Lionel Bart, best known as the composer of Oliver. As it’s name suggests, the musical is set in 1940s London during the Second World War. I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m sure we’re in for an entertaining evening.

The show tonight will be the sixth performance of the week, and with full scale rehearsals taking place last weekend, it’s been a hectic week for Thomas, especially as he’s working full-time as well. He’s also been fighting off a cold and sore throat, so we’re hoping his voice holds out for one last show!

The show is being performed at the Trinity Arts Centre. The building itself is a converted Gothic church, which has retained a lot of its original features. As well as hosting performances by local arts groups, it also hosts a variety of events.

Being a music fan, I’ve seen quite a few artists there. They tend to be either up and coming artists, or those who are on the wane. In fact one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to was when I saw Lindisfarne  (remember them?)there back in the late 1990′s.

Talking of gigs, I have another blog, myrockdatediary where I’ve started detailing all my many previous gigs and festivals. I’m afraid I’ve been neglecting that blog as well, but as the summer is now over and hopefully I’ll have more time for blogging, so I can get a few more posts done both on myrockdatediary and here at awobblyrottenneutron

I have been asked where did I get the name awobblyrottenneutron from, well it’s simply an anagram of my full name Antony Robert Newboult !

I’ve been trying to find an image to go with the name, but not had much success to date, so any suggestions….

I can’t believe it’s been over three weeks since my last post (that sounds like something played on a bugle at my funeral!)

Why no posts I hear you say? Well I had an exam resit this last Saturday, so I’ve been focusing my time and effort on revision.

Talking of exams, the most important event of the last three weeks has been Devon getting her GCSE results. She got them a couple of weeks ago and here’s a photo of her and some school mates on the morning she collected her results:

As you can imagine, I was one proud dad!

Today she’s been to enrol for 6th year college.

The next big events in the Newboult household are Thomas’ 21st at the end of September and my 50th at the end of October.

To celebrate, we’re hoping to go to New York for a week towards the end of October, so no doubt a few of my forthcoming posts will be New York related.

Talking of New York, that’s where my blogging buddy, Marcia Mayne of Inside Journeys lives, so I’ll be tapping into her local knowledge over the next few weeks!

Anyone who knows me will know that my favorite place in the world is Colorado, in particular the Rockies, so my contribution to this week’s photo challenge were taken during my last visit in 2007.

I’m posting this from Cardiff, Wales! Originally we (me and Devon) were going to travel here today, ready for tomorrow’s Dr Who location tout. But I managed to get two tickets for last nights performance of Grease the Musical at the Welsh Millennium Centre, so we got here yesterday evening at 6:00pm and were at the show for 7:30pm

Best of all, I managed to keep it a secret from Devon, she had no idea what we were going to see until we drove past the WMC and saw all the publicity notices – her expression was a picture!

Grease is one of her favourite films of all time and ever since she’d performed in her drama group’s production of it a couple of years ago, she’s been dying to see it.

A quick word about the Welsh Millennium Centre, I’ve been to loads of venues for gigs and shows, but this ranks of one of the best. When I get home I’ll insert some links to their site,but for now here’s a photo I took:

As for the show, it was simply amazing. The singing and dancing were brilliant, and the sets themselves were great.

One surprising member of the cast was Robin Cousins, the gold medal ice skater, as the guardian angel. Interestingly enough, he had quite a decent voice!

Needless to say Devon thoroughly enjoyed the show, and ranked it her equal favourite show so far, along with The Rocky Horror Show she saw last year with school.
